Klockspelet

In the center of Gothenburg, Sweden, you find Klockspelet (The Clockwork), a 18 × 18 meter sound and light installation that awakens every hour. Between sunset and midnight, it not only plays by itself but also invites visitors to connect with it and play.

During the darkest months of the year, the city’s great clock becomes a source of light and energy, inviting passers-by to pause for a moment and reflect on time and life.

Throughout the day and night an audible heartbeat is marked for the hour that has passed. Between dawn and midnight, the clockwork experience intensifies every 10 minutes: the light grows, the sound builds, and the work offers a small spectacle.

Interact with the artwork

From sunset until midnight, you can interact with Klockspelet by drawing light and sound through your phone. No app is needed, it is only to scan a QR code to participate.

Inside the clock

At the center of the installation is a container to which all the lights are connected. On top of it, two speakers are installed. Inside, you find the heart of the installation: a computer playing the synth in sync with the lights. When what you see and what you hear align, the installation truly comes to life.
